After taking the world by storm and making Jennifer Lawrence a global star, the prequel to The Hunger Games is set to take fans of the franchise back to Katniss’s world.
Set 64 years before the original stories, The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes will feature an all-new cast with some serious names, including Jason Schwartzman, Peter Dinklage, Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, and Hunter Schafer.
The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is based on the novel of the same name by Hunger Games creator Suzanne Collins. Her novel is considered a spin-off and prequel and was released in 2020. Thus far, there have been four Hunger Games films.
The dystopian teen action follows an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Blyth) as the 10th Hunger Games are fast approaching. Snow is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler), the tribute from District 12. The two join forces to survive the challenges set before them.
Zegler previously starred in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and is also set to be the lead in Disney’s new Snow White live-action film.
In the new trailer released on Thursday, Zegler sings a rendition of The Hanging Tree song, which Jennifer Lawrence sang in the 2014 film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.
