Land Rover is getting into the rugby gees along with everyone else.
Remember four years ago when Sia Kolisi lifted the Rugby World Cup Trophy after soundly beating England at the final in Tokyo? That Trophy was brought onto the field by the new Land Rover Defender which was then not yet officially launched, and now, the Landy is getting a limited edition makeover specifically for all the rugby-loving Landy owners.
The brand that makes mechanics out of men, says rugby and the Defender have a deep connection: “They are cast from the same mould, made for strength, durability and versatility”. Sounds about right.
Land Rover’s tribute is to immortalise “the spirit of adventure and an unwavering commitment to excellence – a perfect match for those who seek to push boundaries, on and off the field”.
In anticipation of the Rugby World Cup in France 2023, they’ve put their bespoke plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV) Defender 110 Trophy Car to the test on a nearly 4.000km expedition around France, showcasing the Webb Ellis Cup before the Springboks get to bring it back home.
The exterior is finished in Santorini Black, with 22-inch Satin Gold alloy wheels and matching bumper inserts, Defender script and signature graphics, as well as Rugby World Cup 2023 logos on the fender behind the front wheel. At night, puddle lamp graphics with the Rugby World Cup 2023 logo shine out from the Limited Edition Defender. There’s a laser-etched end cap on the dashboard, with ‘Rugby World Cup France 2023’ script, and the individual number of each model complemented by illuminated tread plates with the same script and number.
We’ll keep an eye out for it when it brings our trophy back after the final.
