Apple will be unwrapping a host of new toys for their loyal customers at this year’s unveiling event dubbed ‘Wonderlust’.
Fans of the world’s biggest phone brand will be given a glimpse of the new iPhone 15, as well as new Apple Watches, and apparently loads more.
Apple launches are known for being bigger than most political summits, and this year you can watch the event online, to get a glimpse of what your online conduit will look like – until the next one comes along.
‘Wonderlust’ will take place on 12 September 2023, as per the invites sent out by Apple, and will take place live from Apple Park in Cupertino, California. As is the case with past events, Apple will likely stream the iPhone 15 showcase on its website and YouTube channel. You can also watch it from the livestream embedded below.
One of the biggest changes coming to this year’s iPhone lineup is the addition of USB-C. For the first time, the iPhone 15 is expected to come with the widely-used port instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector.
This of course means my family will be stealing my charger from now on, seeing as I have escaped the ‘where’s my charger’ fights with my insistence on using a ‘very uncool’ Samsung. But back to Apple.
Although reports indicate that all phones in the iPhone 15 lineup will get the USB-C port, only the Pro and Pro Max will benefit from higher data transfer rates. Both premium models will come with “at least” USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, while the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will support USB 2.0.
The most significant changes to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are reported to be a titanium frame, thinner bezels, and a potentially more expensive price. The iPhone 15 Pro Max may be in for a rebranding as well, with Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reporting last year that Apple could change the name to the “Ultra.”
There is also one change that the iPhone 15 Max — or Ultra — may exclusively get: a periscope lens with up to 6x optical zoom.
Apple might also swap its gold finish for a “titan gray”. The company could reveal a new dark blue option, which it might be teasing with the blue, gray, and black colour scheme featured in the event invite.
The standard iPhone 15 is rumoured to come in black, green, blue, yellow, and pink.
The iPhone 15 isn’t the only Apple device that’s expected to get the USB-C treatment. Apple plans on releasing “updated” AirPods with USB-C during the event as well. AirPods will likely also feature the new USB-C charging case, but its unlikely to make any updates to the AirPods themselves.
Rumour has it the price of Airpods is also likely to drop a wee bit. Fingers crossed.
There are a few other things Apple is rumoured to be working on that likely won’t make an appearance at its iPhone 15 event. That includes some new Macs and iPads, which Apple usually holds an event for in October.
As with all things Apple, your nearest Digicape will be the first place to look when trying to get your hands on any new Apple tech. To see what they could have in store for Christmas shopping, check out the live-stream event below on 12 September:
