The iconic performance by PJ Powers during the 1995 Rugby World Cup will forever give us a lump in our throats whenever we hear the World in Union. It’s then fitting that we tap into that gees again as the Springboks prepare for another ass-wuppin.
To add a little beat to the iconic song, PJ Powers and DJ Cosher teamed up to re-release the song, which will feature on her new 26-track project, titled Rightfully Mine.
The album will also feature other hits from a true South African icon in her own right.
Powers believes the song needed a shake-up to bring it into the 2023 tournament, saying “People will not stop listening to that anthemic version, but I thought while you’re having a braai, while you’re dancing, or while you’re working out, we can keep that flavour.”
The Boks have gone on to win a few World Cups since then, but anyone who was alive during the 1995 tournament will know what an undeniably powerful moment that song was in our country’s history. It made everyone believe the impossible was possible, even just for a short few weeks.
Give the ‘new’ World In Union a listen below.
Just like Children by Robert Miles, this song will never get old.
