The City of Cape Town is busy with an ambitious project to revamp the Table View beachfront area. Already at the halfway mark, the new development promises to elevate the tourist, and local, attraction to a whole new level.

Stretching the three kilometres from Dolphin Beach to Bokkomsbaai, the Table View beachfront rehabilitation project will feature a brand-new walkway along the coast, upgraded ablution facilities and reconfigured parking areas.

Alderman Eddie Andrews, Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, is excited by the project: ‘Table View beach gives us an iconic view of Table Mountain in the distance, it is a favourite kite-surfing spot and extremely popular among locals and visitors.’

Construction on the 2 kilometres walkway from Bokkomsbaai to Marine Circle will begin in mid-September, providing a safe and scenic route for walkers and joggers to enjoy the coastline without navigating through parking areas and half-naked surfers wriggling out of their wet wetsuits.

New ablution facilities will be erected between Shell and Seal Roads, alongside the restoration of existing ablutions.

Beach Boulevard and the surrounding parking areas will also be upgraded, which should have some effect on available parking for a while, but the city has confirmed that the disruption will be phased and kept to a minimum, so locals should see this as a worthwhile inconvenience for a few weeks.

The ongoing dune rehabilitation project, an integral part of the upgrade, has already shown impressive progress. The restoration of dunes through sand relocation, wind net installations and revegetation with dune-specific plant species is well underway.

Work on this iconic stretch of coast is expected to be completed by June 2025, so whatever disruption there is, beachgoers will still be able to access one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It’ll be worth it.
