It’s been a humdinger of a month for rare celestial sightings, and last night the Earth was lit by a supermoon, the first of its kind since 2009.

When there are two supermoons in one month, like we had in August, we have a ‘blue moon’, hence the well-known adage ‘once in a blue moon’.
