Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato made headlines this week after deciding to part ways with talent manager Scooter Braun. Braun, of SB Projects, is known for his past feud with Taylor Swift over the release of her songs, and let’s be real, can anyone who goes by ‘Scooter’ be trusted?
The announcements of Grande and Lovato’s respective departures from Braun’s services came within hours of each other, Lovato being the first to break ties last month.
The pop star was clearly embodying the vibes of her hit song ‘Confident’ with the announcement and has reportedly been actively seeking a replacement for management.
Despite the managerial change, Braun and Lovato appear to remain on good terms. He even wished her a happy 31st birthday on Sunday. Sweet, I guess.
Meanwhile, Grande’s departure from SB Projects marks the end of a decade-long professional relationship.
Braun had been associated with Grande since her early career as a Nickelodeon actor on shows like iCarly and he continued to manage her as she transitioned into a successful music career, releasing six albums, with five reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200. That’s a lot of hard work that seemingly paid off, but what could have happened to spark the relationship ending?
Well, it seems all the kinks are still being worked out, as representatives for both Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato have not responded to any request by various media outlets for comment on the situation.
Both artists are making this shift during significant moments in their careers, with Grande is set to release a 10th-anniversary edition of her debut studio album ‘Yours Truly’, while Lovato is currently working on an album titled ‘Revamped’, which will reimagine some of her beloved pop hits in a rock genre.
While Lovato has publicly expressed gratitude for her time with SB Projects, it’s an understatement that Braun’s business relationships have not always ended amicably.
When Braun acquired the master recording rights to Swift’s first six albums through his company, Ithaca Holdings, in 2019, he later sold them to private equity firm Shamrock Holdings, becoming embroiled in legal battles with Swift and public outrage from her fans.
Surprisingly, Braun doesn’t seem that bothered.
The music management mogul posted to Twitter/X last night, making a joke in obvious reference to Grande and Lovato leaving the company.
Breaking news… I’m no longer managing myself

Netizens saw right through the attempt at deflective humour, with the general consensus to the post being summed up by user @Dorrky_Cabello:
Even his self abandoned him😭😭

Top artists including Justin Bieber, David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas and Carly Rae Jepsen are still represented by Braun, but who knows who will ‘scoot’ away next.
