In an exclusive interview with Wired this week, Claire Elise Boucher, known by her moniker ‘Grimes’, has spilled some of the tea on what it’s like to co-parent with tech billionaire baby-daddy Elon Musk.

The dynamic between the two is almost as strange as the names of their kids. It’s no wonder the parents use the two toddlers respective nicknames ‘X’ and ‘Y’.

But are the parenting tactics that weird, or are Boucher and Musk onto something when it comes to encouraging their offspring to think differently?

It’s hard not to be skeptical when Musk is a prolific baby-daddy and father of ten, but it seems like Boucher is fully aware of the unorthodox nature of their co-parenting situation.

When asked by the interviewer if Boucher was concerned about her kids’ privilege (I think what they really wanted to know is: are they spoilt brats?), the celebrity musician gave a pretty rad answer:

“Being Elon’s kid is not the same as being anyone’s kid. In my house, at least, I want it to be more of a crazy warehouse situation and a cool art space.”

It’s an understatement that it’s a whole different kettle of fish being Musk’s kid.

The tech-bro dad already takes his 3-year-old X along to business meetings and tech events. Boucher sees this as an exciting thing for the little boy, but has her concerns when it comes to how involved the toddler is getting in tech culture.

“I’m here for that. X knows a lot about rockets. It’s crazy. He knows more about rockets than me… He’s a little engineer, for sure. But his obsession with space is bordering on, ‘Is this healthy?’ When X saw Starship blow up, he had, like, a three-day PTSD meltdown. Every hour, he was waking up and going, ‘Starship…’ and I had to rub his back.”

Not a childhood experience I can relate to, for sure. And when it comes to Musk and Boucher’s little girl, Y, her interests are just as unorthodox:

“Yeah, she’s [X’s] a little engineer too. She likes industrial shipping. She’s very strange.”

Sjoe, how would a parent even begin to make an ‘industrial shipping’ themed birthday cake? Each to their own.

Boucher also gave us some insight into where she’s headed in her own career. It appears music is out and AI is in for the wacky tech-creative.

While a lot of people are skeptical of AI and the disastrous results, such as the recent “chlorine gas cocktail” produced by an AI recipe app, Boucher seems to have an optimistic outlook on the whole thing, especially when it comes to music.

“I do think AI is gonna be the next thing. I have a lot of opinions about how it should be pursued. So another reason I’m here [in San Francisco] is that I’m trying to meet with all the people making generative AI music to try to convince them to do things in ways that are safe for the human psyche.”

Boucher also picked her words very carefully when asked about Musk’s upcoming ‘fight’ with Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg.

“I would prefer that it [the fight] didn’t happen. I love gladiatorial matches, but watching the father of your children in a physical fight is not the most pleasant feeling. But it’s not going to cause brain damage, so actually I think this is good. Dudes need some outlet for trad masculinity.”

To this, the brave interviewer pointed out that, far from being ‘fun’, the upcoming meet, “seems to have a dark edge of enemies who don’t respect each other,” to which Boucher retorted:

“I actually think it’s making them respect each other more.”

Shocker of the whole thing: Boucher claims it was her sarcastic comment about the two dudes comparing penises that inspired Musk’s controversial post:

“I was like, why don’t you cut to the chase and get out a ruler. I didn’t think he was going to tweet it.”

Hmm, perhaps we should all rather assume that if Musk thinks he can Tweet it, he will Tweet it.
