In a stern message aimed at curbing reckless driving, Gauteng Traffic Police have apprehended two daredevil drivers for hurtling down the N1 freeway at speeds exceeding 200 km/h.
The incidents occurred on Tuesday night along with a high-speed car chase in Sandton and Midrand.
Resembling a live-action ‘Fast and Furious’ scene, two male motorists were shown that when you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.
The first culprit is a 26-year-old speedster who was caught steering a laarnie blue BMW M3 Coupe through the bustling streets of Sandton. The driver was nabbed hurtling at an astounding 275 km/h, which is almost two-and-a-half times the designated 120 km/h for drivers in this zone.
Meanwhile, in a separate but equally concerning incident occurring simultaneously, a 23-year-old driver was spotted careening along the N1 Midrand in a white Mercedes Benz, clocking 222 km/h as he disregarded traffic and safety laws.
Spokesperson for the Gauteng Traffic Department Sello Maremane confirmed with the press that the two adrenaline junkies were arrested on the spot. We have to see the humorous side of this cautionary tale, as the okes tried to explain that they needed to get to a sports game, according to Maremane:
“The driver detained in Sandton was travelling with two male occupants alleging they were rushing to a sporting tournament.”
Maremane did not mince words when emphasising the dire consequences of reckless speeding, and also emphasised how this kind of driving misconduct affects all South Africans.
“Speeding remains one of the biggest risks to road safety in the province,” he asserted. Tragically, road fatalities in SA continue to mount due to driving at excessive speeds.
The Gauteng Traffic Police also announced that they will amplify their vigilance on freeways, streets, and public spaces through marked vehicles to combat rampant traffic violations.
The two wannabe-Stigs will be facing court this morning.
It’s clear we need to be leaving this kind of speed-racing to the professionals on sanctioned driving tracks, otherwise your ‘Fast and Furious’ fantasy will have dire consequences.
