Social media responses to the disturbing allegations against pop royalty Lizzo seem to be summed up as “Please say it isn’t so”.
But as the case becomes more and more public, there’s no denying the facts as more of the accusations are corroborated by other (former) employees. Sh*t just got really real.
Lizzo posted an apology yesterday after a suspiciously long silence following the numerous accusations which include sexual harassment, creation of a hostile work environment, false imprisonment, and prevention of prospective economic advantage. We assume that means ‘blacklisted’ in the backup world.
In light of how serious the allegations are, netizens are unimpressed and disappointed over the empty apology, which consists of a series of rambling statements screenshotted from Lizzo’s iPhone Notes application.

On top of this lame ‘sorry’, Lizzo’s dancers are gaining confidence in their case. No one has been able to disprove the claims as of yet, plus, more people have now publicly backed up the information provided. Even Beyonce appears to not want to have anything to do with Lizzo at the moment, in light of the disastrous situation.
While it’s becoming clear that this case may indeed be the pop star legal battle of the century, it’s important to remember that the allegations were not all directed at Lizzo as a sole defendant, but include five other defendants, including Lizzo’s dance captain Shirlene Quigley.
If you haven’t dived into the 37-page legal document, I don’t blame you. But buckle up, because the things the famously body-positive performer is accused of are truly rotten.
Dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez are represented by lawyer Ron Zambrano and have been truly thorough in their exposition of the disturbing reality of working for Lizzo.
Probably one of the most disturbing claims against Lizzo by the dancers includes descriptions of a party that Lizzo coerced team members to attend, where she forced them to interact with nude dancers despite how uncomfortable they were.
The party in question took place in Amsterdam’s Red Light District and in the claim, it’s alleged that Lizzo ‘began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ nethers, and eating bananas protruding from…” You get the point. Sies man!
“The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing,” lawyer Zambrano said to the press.
If you’re interested in following the case, this TikTok-er carefully went through the legal claim document and pulls out the main threads of the accusations. The clip is trending in a big way right now, with over 9 million views, as we all try to come to grips with what on earth is happening.

Even though the whole mess is still unfolding, I can’t help but get the ‘ick’ now whenever Lizzo comes on my Spotify shuffle. Yuck.
