The thing about stars is that they burn out eventually, so maybe the latest news of a snub by a royal-weary world is another sign that Meghan’s star is waning.
The Duchess of Sussex turns 42 today, and on her 40th birthday two years ago she released the poem on Instagram to promote her newly-launched initiative 40×40.
At the time Meghan appealed to her followers to spread the word far and wide throughout the kingdom, but after all that time the lyric has only been shared 200 times, making it less popular than a meme about a birthmark shaped like a nipple.
The 40×40 project aimed to have 40 famous women offer 40 minutes of their time to women wanting to get back into work. Launching the campaign she made a video calling for her A-list pals to donate their time to “help women re-entering the workforce”.

And in a statement on the website for Archewell – the Sussexes’ brand – she requested just one birthday gift from her fans – that they share a readymade Instagram post with the hashtags #40×40 and #CompassionInAction.
The site also made the share easier with a suggestion caption for people to use if they wished.
The caption reads: “To celebrate The Duchess of Sussex’s 40th birthday, I am devoting 40 minutes of mentorship or service to a cause I care about. Please join me in donating your time. Together, we can contribute to a global wave of compassion and positive change.”
All is not lost for the Duchess though, despite the poem not taking off, the campaign’s initial launch attracted hype from celebrities and female business owners alike.

All seems to have gone quiet on the 40×40 front, and if you search for it on Instagram, the top results appear to be for a Russian nightclub named 40X40, and a discounted PVC pipe sale.
Now before anyone comes to Meghan’s defence with a rolled-up copy of Hello!, let’s give the lady props for continuing her good work despite snarky comments from nobodies like me.
The tallest trees catch the most wind, so it commendable that she keeps on truckin’. Even if royal news is mostly just meh, with splatterings of bleh these days.
