With seemingly unlimited funds, relatively unknown Middle Eastern football club Al-Hilal has extended a staggering £259 million (R6,7 billion) offer to French PSG forward, Kylian Mbappe.

If the money carrot is hard to grasp, consider this: Mbappe is being offered R25 000 for every minute he spends on the pitch, or R433 per second if you are counting small change.

After outbidding even the tradition-heavy PGA Tour with vast sums of money and lofty promises, it seems the Middle East has set its sights on football as the next sport to take over.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has made it clear he does not want to lose Mbappe for free next year when his contract expires, and the World Cup winner is now up for sale having been left out of the club’s squad for their pre-season tour of Japan.

The French team has now given the 24-year-old Mbappe permission to talk with Al-Hilal, so unless Elon Musk decides to give him Tesla, you can be sure the forward will be enjoying the Saudi Arabian sun in the near future.

Manchester United as well as Tottenham Hotspurs have also shown interest in the kid, but they have likely been kicked to the curb as well with the latest offer.

Mbappe is quoted as saying that he isn’t keen to move to Saudi Arabia, and would not mind spending the season on PSG’s bench before moving to Real Madrid next summer, but c’mon, one season in the sun would net him enough to buy Melkbosstrand, so he will definitely sleep on it now.

Al-Hilal’s proposal would see Mbappe become the highest-paid athlete ever, in any sport. Even Ronaldo, who moved to Saudi Arabia in December to join Al-Nassr, is earning a meagre £175 million (R3,3 billion). Poor Messi is also only earning a paltry £46 million (R1,1 billion) in Miami. Pffft.

Al Hilal Saudi Club is a professional multi-sports club based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Their football team competes in the Saudi Professional League and is the most decorated club in Asia, having won 66 official trophies.

They also have a kakload of money.
