If there’s one thing in life worth celebrating, it’s pets.

Professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam know this full well and started The Comedy Pet Photo Awards to honour the positive influence that our little furry friends have on our lives, as well as to raise awareness for animal welfare at large.

The 25 finalists for this year’s contest have been announced, reported PetaPixel, and we’re relishing in the amusing shots, including one of a cat “performing his best victory pose,” a dog pretending to be Zorro, a cat poised to take a free kick, and a dog snuggling up to an orangutan.

“Once again we have been treated to some really funny entries in the competition, and such a wide range of animals this year from ferrets to tortoises to donkeys as well as hundreds of hilarious cats and dogs. The job is now on to find the Overall Winner of Comedy Pets 2023 and of course, the People’s Choice Award winner where everyone can get involved. The shortlisted images will be judged by a panel of animal lovers, including conservationist and TV presenter Kate Humble, comedian and presenter Mel Geidroyc, TV veterinarian Emma Milne, and professional pet photographer Elke Vogelsang.

The 2023 Comedy Pet Photo Winners will be announced on August 11. The overall winner will receive a trophy, a £500 (R11 500) cash prize, and a Think Tank bag.
