Cape Town is one of the world’s best tourist destinations, and with its new braille and audio guides attached to some of its most iconic attractions, the city is hoping to welcome everyone to the Mother City.

Leading the way is Winston Fanie, South Africa’s first-ever blind tour guide.

Fanie and Cape Town Tourism recently launched a flagship project which hopes to make tourism more accessible in the mother city by incorporating braille plaques as well as a QR code which leads to an audio tour voiced by Fanie.

Audio descriptions are also now available at Cape Town’s iconic yellow frames, each offering a unique angle of Table Mountain. Artworks in Salt River have also all been fitted with braille plaques to help blind visitors learn more about the expressive pieces in and around the iconic area.

“We are paving the way for a world where all visitors, regardless of their ability, can embark on unforgettable adventures. Yesterday we gathered to champion inclusivity and accessibility in our city, launching our#LimitlessCapeTown campaign.”

Cape Town Tourism hopes that together with Winston Fani, the city can ignite ‘a revolution of universal access in the Mother City.’
