After a series of failed ventures, Meghan Markle is reportedly set to “step away” from her collaborations with Prince Harry.
The pair have received scathing attacks recently, with Spotify’s senior podcasting executive Bill Simmons tearing into the royal couple on his own podcast, calling them “f***ing grifters”, along with talent agent Jeremy Zimmer saying that Meghan has no talent; “Just because you’re famous doesn’t make you great at something”.
Adding salt to their wounds, Rolling Stone magazine says that the Sussexes are in their “flop era”. Ouch.
This all came after the axing of their $29 million podcast deal with Spotify, which has left doubts that the pair’s $150 million Netflix deal will be renewed, too.
Now, the UK’s Bella magazine has suggested Meghan will focus on solo projects and her personal brand, rather than joint projects with Harry:
“Meghan feels she’ll have better success if she takes the time to work on projects alone without Harry – even though he always gives her his full support,” a source told the magazine.
They add that Meghan’s recent signing with Hollywood talent agency WME was to ensure she is seen as a “power player” in her own right.
Meghan was about to be the new face of Dior, joining the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, and Natalie Portman on the Dior ambassador roster, but apparently, that was over even before it began. Despite the rumours, a spokesman for the French fashion house in Paris says there have been no contract negotiations or recent contact with the Duchess of Sussex.
Nonetheless, the Daily Mail reports that Meghan is preparing for a “string of commercial endorsements in fields meaningful to her, such as food, wellness, fashion and therapy” following the axing of her podcast.
She is also looking set to publish her own book, “most likely with a feminist angle”, following the success of Harry’s memoir Spare.
Meghan and Harry reportedly believe they’ve had a stint of bad luck in trying to make it outside of the UK; “The word is that they think they’ve been really unlucky,” an insider said, also claiming the pair believe the Queen and Prince Philip’s passing has made it tougher to find success.
I didn’t realise there was more milking to be done here. Meghan is relentless.
