With the epic pakslae the Springbokke gave the Aussies this past Saturday still fresh in our minds, the epicness is set to continue as The Kiffness teamed up with some of the Bokke to bring South Africa another song.
The track, which has already started making waves across social media platforms, is an exciting fusion of traditional isiXhosa music and modern South African beats.
Our much loved and charismatic Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi is said to be the inspiration behind the song that dropped the same day Eddie Jones was forced to complain about a ‘smartass’ journalist as he tried to explain away his team’s dismal performance. Well, at least they showed up for the game.
Kolisi has been teaching his teammates a traditional isiXhosa call-and-response song called ‘gwijo’. This powerful chant has been resonating within the Springbok locker rooms, lifting spirits and forging a sense of camaraderie amongst the players.
The music video for the song, which has already gone viral, is a rallying call for all South Africans to unite in support of the team. The song reminds everyone that if you have never experienced the magic of a rampaging Springbok team, then you have never seen them live.
At least on Saturday, the Wallabies got a front-row seat to the magic of the World Champs. Check out the video below and remember, South Africans are kind people at heart, so hug an Australian today, they need it.
Learn the song if you can, and let’s belt it out every time the Impis lead the Boks onto the field.
