After spending her entire life inside a cage, a chimpanzee named Vanilla was finally able to see the sky after being released, and the video makes you want to go outside and breathe the fresh air.

28-Year-old Vanilla was born in a now-closed facility that conducted experiments on animals, with no grass or space to move around freely in nature.

In her time there she became quite close to the alpha male in the group called Dwight, and as you will see in the video, the older chimp coaxes her along as she stares up into the sky in fascination.

The video of her release has spread worldwide and just the way she looks at the blue sky tells you all you need to know about the inhumane conditions animals are kept in. How cruel to keep such an intelligent animal locked away from nature for so many years.

You can almost see her mouth: “WOW”.
