Only Nando’s can make us smile at the ridiculousness of everyday life in South Africa. Their newest advert however seems to play like a highlight reel of recent political idiocracy in Mzansi.

In a very South African take on the Oscars, the fast food franchise brings us The Hot Plot Awards in which they take the piss with tender-hungry state capture cats, our bedroom antics with Putin, and a hauntingly beautiful montage in which the presidential couch-stuffers do their job.

It wouldn’t be so funny if it weren’t so very true. But you know us South Africans, when the going gets schizophrenic, we laugh at ourselves. Too bad the objects of this pointed comedy will most likely only chuckle along.
