Seen as the cradle of Christianity in England as well as reputedly being the burial place of King Arthur, Glastonbury’s annual music festival has become a right of passage for any music lover, and this year’s line-up was one for the history books.
Perhaps one of the biggest attractions this year was Elton John, who played his last-ever show on English soil during the final night.
The 70-year-old rocker is a newbie when it comes to Glastonbury, and despite appearing rather frail as he ascended the stage, the Rocket Man proved why he is considered one of the best performers of all time.
“I never thought I’d play Glastonbury and here I am. It’s a very special and emotional night for me as it may be my last ever show in England, so I better play well and entertain you.”
Elton John is currently wrapping up his live career with the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
All weekend, Glastonbury has been abuzz with rumours that Britney Spears would perform her version of Tiny Dancer with Elton John, but the Killers’ Brandon Flowers eventually joined the showman for the tune. Apparently, Britney is still melting down.
Another legend, Paul McCartney, also made an unexpected appearance midway through Saturday night’s performance by the Pretenders, as well as making fans go gaga when he appeared to enjoy the sunset over the maddening crowds at the festival. One lucky fan got a trending post when he was in the perfect spot:
A surreal moment amongst an already mad weekend. Walked to the top of the @glastonbury hill for a sunset photo, turns out Paul McCartney had the same idea! #lovehim #icon #legend pic.twitter.com/K7b6R7hkGt

‘Normal Guy’ Lewis Capaldi also had fans helping him out as he lost his voice during his last song, while Cat Steven’s, a.k.a. Yusuf Islam had the crowd enthralled as he only he can.
I’m just thinking back to the first time I nervously walked up to a microphone in a small folk club in Soho, in 1965. And now walking onto the great Pyramid Stage of Glastonbury. What a journey. @glastonbury #PyramidStage #Peace pic.twitter.com/LCAx9XdPYo

Legends galore, this year’s festival included some of the biggest names ever, like Guns N’ Roses, Rick Astley, Arctic Monkeys, Blondie, Fatboy Slim, Leftfield, and a host of other upcoming and established acts.
