While Sam Levinson’s The Idol gives us sex that’s really about trauma, Luca Guadagnino is serving a sex scene that feels far less jaded and decadent.
The arthouse darling who gave us Armie Hammer, Timothée Chalamet and that peach in Call Me By Your Name as well as romantic cannibalism in Bones And All is bringing sexy to the screen again.
Starring the Emmy-award-winning Zendaya as a professional tennis player, Challengers is ostensibly set in the world of tennis and is not without a hot little love triangle, per Mashable:
Zendaya plays Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy-turned-coach for her husband Art (Faist). As she and Art train to get him out of his losing streak, they’ll face off against Art’s former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend Patrick (O’Connor).
Sparks fly and tempers flare in the film’s electrifying first trailer, giving us a love triangle between three talented and charismatic young actors:
If Bones and All was introspective, Guadagnino has signalled that Challengers will be anything but, telling Indiewire that it is his “first comedy”, calling it “a fairly fizzy, sexy movie about the world of tennis.”
Challengers will be in theatres from September 15.
