Squid Game: The Challenge will be hitting our screens on Netflix this coming November, and no, there won’t be any killing of contestants in the new reality show. Bummer.
Almost one year after Netflix teased a reality show based on the hit Korean success, and despite rumours of ‘dangerous conditions’ on the set, the world’s biggest streaming network will now air its first episodes of the show by the end of the year.
A teaser trailer for the upcoming show has been released and despite not showing much detail, it does confirm that the infamous opening game ‘Red Light, Green Light’ will be making an appearance.
It was rather inevitable that the huge success of Squid Game would be morphed into a PG-rated gameshow at some point. This also coincides with the confirmation of a second season of the popular original. Netflix has said that Squid Game was its biggest-ever launch for a series, so just like the Marvel franchise, they make hay while the money sun shines.
The rise of Korean TV has seen Netflix invest close to $2,5 Billion (R45 Billion) in projects from that country.
The show is sure to be a hit, but without the actual dangers of the original, we’ll have to see if it reaches global success like before. But still, no glass bridge and deadly albasters games…
