A new charge of assault, this time against a policewoman, has been issued for convicted wife-beater Jaco Swart.
You might remember this piece of work from last year when a video of him viciously assaulting his ex-wife, Nicoleen Swart surfaced on social media.
The video’s authenticity was declared ‘unclear’, and the guy was fined R20 000. It was a slap on the wrist that didn’t even come close to the slaps, kicks, and punches he dealt his terrified ex-wife.
The same abuser later surfaced in the news when he bleated about being handcuffed and beaten by a group of unknown men, who reportedly told him they were going to ‘cut his hands off for striking a woman’. Violence is never the answer, and we can empathise with the fear when being violently tormented.
Apparently, Swart just can’t help himself, and Polity reports that he is now facing a new charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit is representing Warrant Officer Sonja Albertyn in this matter, which is being privately prosecuted.
Swart has however fled to the UK, where he is said to be working illegally, so the summons cannot be served, and it’s unlikely he will be appearing in court.
AfriForum Spokesperson Barry Bateman said, “Police have previously tried to serve a summons on Swart in connection with a fraud matter registered in Sinoville, Pretoria, but he could not be located and is believed to be residing in the United Kingdom, where he is allegedly working illegally.”
According to the statement, an incident occurred on the morning of 13 January 2022. It is alleged that Albertyn’s neighbour asked her for help because her friend, Swart, was intoxicated after a night out and was refusing to leave her flat.
‘At one point, Swart allegedly locked the security gate and prevented the woman from leaving her flat. Albertyn put her hand through the security gate and told Swart not to close the door.’
‘Despite this, and knowing she was a police officer, he allegedly used force and slammed the door on her arm causing damage to her tendon.’
When Albertyn called for backup, Swart fled the property, and the country. The policewoman filed a case at the Brackenfell Police Station.
Bateman explained that ‘in terms of the applicable legislation, there is a three-month limit within which to initiate the private prosecution against an accused, hence the summons being applied for and issued at the Kuilsrivier Magistrates Court on 9 June 2023.’

By the sound of it, this guy will run afoul of UK laws sooner or later, so hopefully there will be some justice down the road.
Speaking of justice.. What’s been happening in the case of the ‘Cape Town businessman in court after a vile video of him beating his wife in front of his daughter’ emerged?
We should never forget these headlines, or the people in their wake.
