Overzealous security guards have been putting in some big hits lately on the sports field, and this time it was pro golfer Adam Hadwin that got flattened in a Springbok-worthy tackle.
The Canadian golfer was on his way to congratulate his countryman Nick Taylor’s win in the RBC Canadian Open when the security guard mistook him for a crazy fan and body-slammed him into the ground in a spray of celebratory champagne.
To be fair, most spectators at golf tournaments look like golfers with their Titleist hats and bright socks, so it stands to reason that the player could have been mistaken for a champagne bottle-wielding fanatic.
Nick Taylor had just sunk a 72-foot putt to become the first Canadian to win the RBC Canadian Open in 69 years when Hadwin ran onto the green to try and celebrate with his friend. The security guard spotted the other Canadian approaching the winner and that’s when the bok-gees took over.
The crowd let out a missed-putt groan as the two hit the ground as other security guards ran over to pull the burly tackler of the shocked jock. The broadcasters didn’t miss a beat and kept the commentary going amid the scuffle.
“They’re storming the green now. They just tackled Adam Hadwin, by the way, who was trying to approach his friend. Security did. Not knowing that’s exactly who it was.”
Luckily the mistaken identity didn’t distract from the epic win and Hadwin was picked up to congratulate his friend.
Taylor opened in a tie for 120th place before he clawed his way back into the tournament over the next three rounds for a win, marking the first time since 1954 that a Canadian won the Canadian Open.
Thankfully golf is a well-covered sport, so check out the epic tackle below.

Poor Hadwin. This would never have happened if it was Tiger. Unless one of his ex-lovers decided to invade the green for some ‘Tiger time’.
