Truffle Season Is Back – You Don’t Want To Miss This Foodie Experience

Our favourite spot in the Franschhoek Winelands is currently enjoying its two-month truffle season, which means there’s no better time to experience these rare delicacies at their freshest and most flavourful.

Sometimes it feels like Winter has very little to offer when you’re sitting inside taco-blanket style, heater on, tea in hand at all times, binge-watching anything and everything – load shedding permitting.

But actually, there’s more to do besides hole up. Especially if you’re one to enjoy a seasonal treat or two.

Anthonij Rupert Wine is currently enjoying its two-month truffle season, which means there’s no better time to experience these rare delicacies at their freshest and most flavourful.

For the cold months of June and July, you can cosy up for one of the six hosted dining experiences that will be showcasing the winemakers’ very own Black Perigord truffles.

Alongside these lunch and dinner time dining opportunities, there are also a few hosted functions where guests can meet the truffle hunter and learn more about South Africa’s emerging truffle cultivation.

Anthonij Rupert’s Altima estate is home to a special truffle forest and they’re being so kind as to allow guests to enjoy the sumptuous treasures as part of a four-course set menu.

The best part is that, yes, there is wine. The menu is paired with wines from their acclaimed Cape of Good Hope wine range.

Anthonij Rupert is the first wine estate to both produce and sell Black Perigord truffles in South Africa, so this is really a rare treat if ever you were searching for one.

The cost for the truffle-inspired dining experience is R1 300 per guest, which is inclusive of all food, paired wines, and gratuity.

You can explore your inner epicureans during these time slots:

  • Friday, 9 June | 18:00pm (Dinner)
  • Saturday, 17 June | 12:00 (Lunch)
  • Friday, 30 June | 18:00 (Dinner)
  • Saturday, 1 July | 12:00 (Lunch)
  • Sunday, 16 July | 12:00 (Lunch)
  • Friday, 28 July | 18:00 (Dinner)

Remember, because seating is limited to ensure a personalised experience, booking is essential.

Winter isn’t so limited after all.
