It’s Pete against PETA in the latest internet drama.
Pete Davidson purchasing his new dog from a pet store and not adopting from an animal shelter has been a huge disappointment for the folks over at PETA, who slammed the serial celeb-dater for his choices on Twitter.
Pete and his new girlfriend, Chase Sui Wonders – the pair acted alongside each other in the Gen Z thriller Bodies Bodies Bodies – were spotted buying a purebred cavapoo puppy at a New York City pet store last week, which obviously grated the animal rights organisation.
Oooh, illicit behaviour:
For context, per BuzzFeed News, Pete had lost his two-year-old dog, Henry, suddenly two months prior, and had sought to fill the gap with a new pup.
Pete doesn’t have Instagram so he asked his Saturday Night Live comedy writer friend, Dave Sirus, to post about it for him:

That’s when TMZ reported that PETA was having none of his nonsense:
Daphna Nachminovitch, the Senior VP of Cruelty Investigations over at PETA, tells TMZ … “It’s tragic that Pete didn’t seek out a borough-born mutt from a city animal shelter, because a scrappy New Yorker with charm, personality, and unconventional handsomeness could have been his perfect match.”
PETA is using Pete as an example to urge all, if not him particularly, to consider adopting a four-legged friend instead:
“Since shelters in New York and across the country are overflowing with homeless animals, PETA urges Pete to show some big heart energy by adopting, not shopping, in the future.”
Then, Pete went off the deep end, sending an expletive-laden voice note to the organisation in retaliation.
Pete Davidson leaves PETA an explicit voicemail after they blasted him for buying a dog from a pet store instead of adopting:

He started off calmly explaining that he is severely allergic to dogs so he has to “get a specific breed” before launching into a tirade of swear words: “So why don’t you do your research before you f*cking create news stories for people because you’re a boring tired f*ck? F*ck you and suck my d*ck!” he says before hanging up.
Nice one Pete. That’s sure to get ’em where it hurts.
Now Pete and PETA are fighting through TMZ, with PETA since responding to the voicemail in a statement posted to the publication:
“If Pete had done his research, he would know that there’s no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, that at least a quarter of dogs in shelters are purebreds, and that Petfinder has listings for homeless dogs of every breed under the sun, including the one he purchased.”
Do you think that settled it? Think again.
And then Pete responded to Daphna’s response to TMZ with his own statement: “I haven’t seen my mom and sister cry like that in over 20 years. I was trying to cheer up my family. I was already upset that the store had filmed me without my permission or acknowledgment. Then this organization (PETA) made a public example of us, making our grieving situation worse. I am upset. It was a poor choice of words. I shouldn’t have said what I said, but I am not sorry for standing up for myself and my family.”
That might be where we leave it, but since Pete and PETA clearly love a statement, we might see another one pop up any minute now.
