Never forget that the self-styled prophet who is facing charges of money laundering, theft, and fraud can apparently walk on air.
A video that did the rounds last year is putting people in stitches all over Twitter again, as the extradition case against the Malawian self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary takes hold this week, per SAPeople.
The video of the staged miracle is so hilariously obvious, showing Bushiri walking down the stairs before suddenly diddle-daddling in the air.

Back when News24 first revealed the amazing footage, Journalist Maynard Manyowa shared what happened behind the scenes, confirming that “In reality, two men off-camera had lifted him up, then zoomed his feet as he dangled his legs in a walking motion”. This is made obvious by the shadows on either side of him and the door left ajar after his apparent lift-off.
Even though the video “backfired spectacularly” it did give his church “hitherto unseen mileage”:
When I first met Bushiri at a Pretoria hotel, I arrived convinced he was dim for having attempted these two staged miracles. But as he spoke, and showed me the number of partners who had signed up from the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom, I was blown away.
People had committed millions of American dollars, and the more fun that was made of his antics, the more people moved from the fence to Bushiri’s side. For everyone who judged, Bushiri gained at least five people who were certain that “these critics didn’t understand God”
“When Jesus walked on water, people laughed”, one user wrote on the clip. “God always performs questionable miracles to test the faith of those around him”
Before Bushiri became a fugitive facing charges of money laundering, theft and fraud in connection with an R102 million investment scheme, his Enlightened Christian Gathering Church (ECG), now known as The Jesus Nation Church was second to none.
SowetanLIVE notes that local witnesses in the extradition case against Bushiri and his wife Mary are expected to give evidence in person this week.
Bushiri fled to Malawi in November 2020 after he and his wife, Mary, were granted bail at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in relation to his fraud and money laundering. At the time, the Bushiris claimed they had to flee the country for their own safety.
Now the case has become a matter of national interest to the South African government, per Justice Minister Ronald Lamola:
“The relevant officials are in Malawi to give evidence as per the requirements of the courts in Malawi. We will await the outcomes of the hearing,” said Lamola in his budget vote speech, delivered on Tuesday morning.
“This is a matter of national interest to the South African government. This shows that the wheels of justice are turning,” he said.
Shame man Bushiri, you’re just giving all the prophets who can actually walk on air and perform other such miracles a bad rep.
