According to a British white witch, Astrid Carvel, Brits are turning to cast spells to beat the cost-of-living crisis and boost their well-being.
Apparently when in financial trouble, the only thing that really works is black candles and burning goat hair.
The self-professed white witch claims that is it natural for people to turn to cast spells when times of trouble are here, and this whacky wiccan has now penned a book that introduces newbies to the world of Griffindor.
Astrid claims that “people are discovering witchcraft and appreciating it as a path to a more joyful and meaningful existence”.
According to the author/sorceress, witchcraft is an ancient and natural art – many of the items you need to cast spells are found in nature for free. So you don’t even need to spend money to get money. That must be the beautiful simplicity of casting spells. Even a wishing well still requires a penny.
“Witches are everywhere, and you may never realise you’re standing right next to one – I don’t go about wearing a pointy hat and floating on a broomstick! The spells I cast are usually made in an attempt to protect the wellbeing of my family and friends.”
Helping Britons wicca themselves out of debt starts relatively simple and focuses on self-care, such as the ‘magic’ of burning a fragrant candle and standing in the wind. Astrid says magic is all around us, and each of us can tap into it.
“I start with traditional forms of self-care, like mindful nature walks and herbal teas, before I branched out into other areas of witchcraft, such as spell work and divination.”
A quiz at the start of Astrid’s book The Baby Witch’s Journal will give you a steer on the kind of witchcraft which resonates before you start.
One of her best pieces of advice is to take to social media for inspiration and support. The online witch community is apparently one of the most welcoming and inclusive out there. Fancy potions, a cauldron, and a black cat are also not required to tap into the magic.
Astrid claims that rainwater and moonlight are powerful tools, but for increased power and potency, you can also use crystals. Good old crystals.
She does however warn those who attempt these spells to be careful about absorbing the energies around them, and not to take on too much of the troubles that surround those who you wish to help.
Hell, I suppose anything is better than waiting for the government to bail us out or asking ABSA for an increase on your overdraft. Roll on the witchcraft.
For those of you who frequent Houtbay Market and like dressing up in purple, we took the liberty of adding one of her fool-proof ‘money-for-rainwater’ spells below, which should sort out the arrears on your home loan.
Just note that much like ABSA, the spell should only be in effect from the next full moon.
Money luck full moon spell:
Ingredients:
Method: Meditate on what you truly want and how much it will cost, and visualise how the money will improve your life in as much detail as you can.
When you have a clear mental image, think of one or two words that define the item or experience, and carve into the side of the candle with your pin.
Place the carved candle in a holder and light it. Meditate on the flame and think again about what you need the money for. Watch the candle burn down over the words that you have carved and then blow it out. When the candle stump has cooled, place it in your purse. The universe will respond by the next full moon.
That seems simple enough.
