Yes, you read the headline correctly.
A new quiz show on BBC had viewers in a state of shock when a contestant’s head exploded after she got trapped in some bizarre glass box.
The show’s host, Lee Mack, was in the foreground chatting away to the camera when viewers were treated to the 90’s horror throwback of a head exploding in the background. Lee then ran off set screaming ‘get the producer’ before the camera cut out and the credits rolled.
But, of course, this is television and none of it is real, or is it?
Before viewers were freaked out they were preparing to watch a lBBC comedy-drama called Inside No 9, however, the programming was changed at the last minute to introduce a ‘new game show’, hosted by Mack.
“Hello I’m Lee Mack and welcome to 3by3, the brand new quiz show that gives three teams of three people, three chances to win a big money prize.” The host introduced himself, ‘Well, I say big money, this is the BBC. In fact, if the set doesn’t fall down we’ll be happy.’
And then some lady in a glass cage gets her head blown up.
The scene gets a little chaotic. Then, before viewers are told that it is merely a prank and was, in fact, the first scene of the scheduled episode of Inside No 9. Clever watchers would have caught on to the 3×3=9 connection, but for the rest, a heart attack and therapy for the kids await.
Lee was starring as the fake gameshow host and Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton had written the whole thing.
A performance of magnificent self-mastery from Lee Mack in last night’s #InsideNo9, whose need to be submerged in the belief in the thing, and convey that, was monumental. A terrific piece of acting. And a script with such delicate, precise, subtle & tiny beats. A balancing act. pic.twitter.com/OrC9LwC0z6

Moerse weird sense of humour that these Brits have.
The BBC was predictably flooded with messages from people who were freaking out over the gratuitous violence on a game show, even if it was a ruse.
Check out the segment below, but be warned, some woman’s head explodes. Nope, still not very funny.
