A Facebook post from March this year has given us a glimpse into the future of South African rugby and shows the ‘giant’ Eben Etzebeth standing next to a 14-year-old player from Rondebosch Boys who looks like he might be able to eat Eben.
14-year-old Sebastian Smith was among the group of boys who went to see their heroes during a Springbok training camp in Cape Town earlier this year. To everyone’s amusement, the 14-year-old stood next to Etzebeth and perhaps for the first time in his life, Eben had to look up ever so slightly to lock eyes with the lanky teen.
Smith is reportedly standing at 2,05 metres tall and weighing in at 131 kilograms. That is two centimetres taller and 14kg heavier than Etzebeth. Jirre, what are they feeding kids in Rondebosch these days?
While he still has his job, Eben will be running out with the Springboks against Australia at Loftus Versfeld on July 8 for a friendly warmup game before the Rugby World Cup kicks off in September.Judging by his size, Sebastian Smith might just be running out with the boks in future World Cups.
