The quest to be the most influential influencer continues.
Social media threw up in their mouths a little this week when an influencer revealed she put part of her knee cartilage that was removed during an operation into a lovely spaghetti dish, which she then ate along with her partner.
For those of you who don’t know, influencing involves having an Instagram account with multiple selfies of you lying on a beach in a thong, taking selfies in the toilet in a thong, splashing in the surf in a thong, and pretending to sleep in exotic locations, in a thong.
But a thong only goes so far, and an influencer’s gotta eat every now and again. Also in a thong.
The idea started rolling around her spacious head when Paula Gonu underwent surgery on her leg. Choosing a local anaesthetic for the operation, Gonu stayed awake during the procedure so she could chat with her surgeon as he was performing the op.
The 30-year-old then revealed that after the surgery the doctor asked if she wanted to keep the bit of cartilage. Gonu said: “I told him, ‘Yes’ and he put what he removed into a small container like those used for urine samples.”
“He put it in alcohol so it would stay that way for as long as I wanted.”
About a week later, the hobbled influencer was having a ‘jokey conversation’ with her partner when she suggested eating the little part of her, ostensibly because she wanted to put it back into her body.
Gonu went on to make a bolognese sauce and put the piece of her cartilage into the sauce, before serving it on an el dente pasta.
Explaining her cannibalistic attempt to gain more followers and be more influential, she notes that it’s not unusual for people to eat cartilage and all other kinds of parts from animals, so why is it so much worse for her to eat a part of her own body?

Chowing down on your newborn’s placenta has thus far been the only ‘acceptable’ way to consume ‘human’, and the trend has been particularly popular among celebrities, with even Tom Cruise raving about the benefits of eating naalstring.
Having your partner eat part of your knee is a bit too Jeffrey Dahmer-ish for our liking. The good news however is that Gonu got her fleeting moment of fame.
Influencers. ‘Nuff said.
