Turns out Mark Zuckerberg isn’t a robot after all. The CEO of Meta took part in his first-ever Brazilian jiujitsu tournament and then went on to surprise everyone by winning gold and silver medals.
No, he didn’t buy them.
The 38-year-old Facebook billionaire took part in a weekend match in Redwood City, California and after putting up a brave fight, ended up being pinned to the mat a few times too many by his opponent.
The referee called the match after two minutes, believing that Zuckerberg had ‘tapped out’, but the billionaire was quick on his feet to confront the ref, insisting that he did not give up. Winners never quit, eh?
The match was eventually re-cast as a 0-0 draw, which appears to please Zuckerberg. Even his opponent looked chuffed with the result. Zuckerberg was quick to share his victory with his loyal Instagram acolytes after he went on to take home gold and silver medals.

Zuckerberg took part in the Gi — where fighters wear traditional, heavy-fabric garb and a belt that shows their ranking — and No-Gi disciplines of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
His interest in the sport began during the lockdown, and as a billionaire would, he has been training hard at his gym, Guerilla Jiu-Jitsu Academy, with his private coaches, Dave Carillo, Khai “The Shadow” Wu and James Terry. The two were also quick to congratulate the Meta Man on his victories – perhaps there were bonuses involved. Camarillo commented:
“It’s inspiring to see someone so known challenge themselves in a new arena. This goes to show how amazing the art of Jiu-Jitsu really it. It changes you, it enhances the power of will – it is magic. It also attracts some very driven people,” he added.
“You don’t know this nerd is a silent killer,” Wu said afterwards. Have a look at the silent killer robot do his thing below:
He is so human-like it’s almost unreal.
