On Monday, a star-studded guest list dazzled in Karl Lagerfeld-themed attire on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate the opening of the Costume Institute’s new exhibit: ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’.
While there’s much to say in the way of Karl’s terribly misogynistic comments towards women throughout his life (he died in 2019), making the Met theme pretty awkward, we’re really here to talk about this one painfully awkward red-carpet interview that has been doing the rounds on social media.
Everyone has been left feeling rather uncomfortable after watching Vogue host Chloe Fineman interview Stella McCartney, Madelyn Cline, and Aubrey Plaza, seemingly without really knowing who they were:
“We have [sic] Stella McCartey, Natalie Cline and Audrey…” Fineman told viewers, before extending the microphone to Plaza, who finished: “Slutburn.”
After Fineman repeated the faux surname, the interview then moved on to the outfits worn by the trio, with McCartney telling Fineman of her polka-dot blazer dress: “It’s a look. And that’s about it.”
It just gets increasingly worse after the host botched Aubrey’s name and then repeatedly called her “Audrey”:

Chloe connecting her name to Stella taking over from Karl at Chloe in 1997 is not even the incongruous cherry on top. Her terrible use of the mic, her misuse of volume generally, and then the fact that all three ladies were constantly laughing at the host and making eyes at each other is a lot of drama for one interview.
this was 100% a bit lol. there’s 0 chance chloe fineman doesn’t know who aubrey plaza is https://t.co/QV4fsFY4wz

The Independent noted someone commenting; “’I’m sooooo obsessed with people not knowing that this is a bit like Aubrey and Chloe didn’t kiss on SNL a few months ago”. Which is true, they did:

Unless Chloe was inebriated during one or all interactions and did actually forget Aubrey’s name.
That would make it all make sense.
