Intrepid adventurer and occasional bug-eater, Bear Grylls, was in Cape Town last week to deliver a motivational speech on the ‘the summits in your life’, and while he was at it, the man’s man took time to conquer Lion’s Head.
Grylls was in the Mother City to address 2000 ‘global entrepreneurs’ about “what it means to persevere and keep your head and heart in check as you climb to the summits in your life”.
If anyone knows about keeping your head and summiting summits, it would be the star of Running Wild with Bear Grylls.
The adventurer took time out of his motivational tour to enjoy the natural beauty of Cape Town, and along with a member of his team, Adam Hassan made the traditional tourist trek up Lion’s Head.
In an amazing stroke of luck, young members of the World Scouting Organisation found themselves on the same climb and bumped into the world’s most bad-ass boy scout, who posed for some pics with the kids, as well as dropped some wisdom on them.
Grylls posted his encounter to Twitter, saying: “No surprise there… Scouts are born for adventure!”

Grylls has expressed in the past how South Africa holds a special place in his heart, saying that he ‘feels really proud of the adventure community in South Africa that supports a lot of Running Wilds.’
“South Africa is always a place so close to my heart, and you guys are always so warm and encouraging about all of my stuff. It really means a lot to me.”
Hopefully, we can get the bushcraft guru back soon to perhaps shoot a series on one of our local mountain ranges.
