We’ve been enjoying the recent collaborations between Fitch & Leedes and local bartending mixologists, and that got us thinking about whether there can be such a thing as the ‘best bartender’.
Everyone should at least have one friend that can mix a perfect Ramos Gin Fizz, and they would definitely be able to pour my Vermouth the way I like it, (with a splash of Fitch & Leedes Soda and 2 ice cubes), but could you ever say that it’s the best you ever tasted? Can someone mix a perfect drink?
Turns out there is a cocktail master, and he is literally called the King of Cocktail.
Dale Degroff, also known as “the King of Cocktails” or “King Cocktail”, is an American bartender that is considered by those who don’t drink beer out of a can, as the world’s foremost cocktail expert.Degroff became famous during his stint as chief bartender in the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center in New York City during the late eighties and nineties. He was old school and insisted on using the classic recipes with only the best ingredients. Not that syrupy nonsense that a lot of bars use, but the good stuff, like the Fitch & Leedes range of mixers.
Although Degroff is not slinging cocktails over messy bar counters anymore, he still writes and teaches what he knows to people who understand the art of a Bloody Mary. Fitch & Leedes have done a nice job of pointing out that a mixer needs to be mixed well, and perhaps my Vermouth can taste a lot better than what I consider perfect.Check out the Fitch & Leedes Instagram account for some inspiration from the Degroffs of this country. They have a great selection of bespoke mixers to help you raise your mixing game at home as well.

Don’t be like Tom Cruise in Cocktail, mix a proper cocktail.
