It’s been fun hating on watching James Corden for eight years, as he did his hosting thing for CBS’ The Late Late Show.
CBS News reckons he reinvented late-night telly, being one of the few hosts who has jumped out of a plane with Tom Cruise, sang Carpool Karaoke with the likes of Adele, Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder, and even Barbra Streisand, as well as literally stopping Hollywood traffic with a gyrate-fest called Crosswalk: The Musical.
Love him or hate him, he’s certainly squeezed himself in as a global household name (sort of).
But now, at the top of his game (especially after surviving near-social crucifixion) Corden is leaving the show, and the country (that being America) to return to London. There are only four shows left for the 44-year-old:
“I’ll all be gobsmacked and amazed,” he said. “This was a part of my life. But my wife and I, we always knew that this was an adventure, and not a final destination.”
The comedy host began his career on Broadway with success in London’s West End, where he won a Tony Award for best actor in a play, for One Man, Two Guvnors.
He’s moving to London with his family to start a new life now and is still using his illustrious talents, starring in a limited series, Mammals, out now on Amazon Prime.
He is also still navigating that recent bump in the road in the form of that owner from the posh New York restaurant who briefly banned him after a dust-up with the wait staff.
Corden apologized in a phone call, and then on the air. The owner lifted the ban. But in this era of endless news cycles and social media, the story won’t die. Corden is clearly tired of discussing it.
Fine. We will let that one go and focus on Adele surprising a sleeping Corden with cymbals before driving him around to the tune of her Grammy award-winning songs.
They laugh, they cry, and they belt out everything from ‘Rolling in the Deep’ to an epic cover of Barbra Streisand’s ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’. Enjoy:
What better way to end the show than with a surprise return appearance from the singer whose original episode was so popular it broke records?
