Well, this must be embarrassing.
Imagine training for a whole season to fulfil your dream of taking part in the Boston Marathon, only for worldwide news highlights of the day to include security camera footage of you pooping in some stranger’s front yard.
Dis n kak een.
The uncomfortable reality of ‘having to go’ while running a marathon is not new, and many runners have crossed the finish line with skidmarks running down their legs and into their Nikes.
‘Runners trot’ as it is known is a constant fear to those who like to run. Someone who works behind the scenes at the Cape Epic has over the years seen people crossing the finish line with faeces running down their legs.
According to WebMD, more than a third of long-distance athletes experience ‘the trots’, and as illustrated by the video, women are unfortunately more likely to find themselves clenching their way to the finish line. But sometimes you just have to go, and a poop in the bushes is better than a turd in your tekkies.

The extremely uncomfortable video shows a woman ducking through some bushes to stealthily squat on the lawn inside a property along the route. Despite trying to escape the glare of onlookers, a man does wander into the yard, perhaps hoping to catch the runner in the act of snarfing some vitamins.
He was however not expecting someone to be making potty, so the man is seen turning around and casually strolling back to the race.
Perhaps trying to convince himself that he did see correctly, he returns a moment later with an eye-witness, but by that time the lady had relieved herself and started to scamper through the bushes and back to the race. Viewers will off course notice she didn’t flush, which makes this whole thing that much more unpleasant to see.
This must have triggered some Clifton homeowners as it was reported on this site that South Africa was lucky enough to have spotted our own species of stoepkakker in 2016.
For a double dose of doo-doo, you can have a look at the below reminder. Notice how much quicker our own stoepkakker is.
That’s how we roll. Proudly South African.
Just to drive the point home about how much of an unspoken ‘problem’ this is, have a guilty giggle as this lady explains her own dilemma while out for a run:
@holymorridgeI am the definiton of all the gear and no idea. How can i sit here in proper running shoes, a runners cap, tala leggings and a knock off viral fitness girly bbl jacket whilst not being able to run 2km without 💩 myself♬ original sound – holly morris
