A Disneyland performance of Fantasmic had to be hastily cancelled after the fire-breathing attraction Maleficent caught on fire during a live performance.

The video shows Maleficent, a 13m high fire-breathing dragon, catching on fire as people can be heard exclaiming in shock. Maleficent was reimagined for a live-action film in 2014, featuring the other fire-breathing lizard, Angelina Jolie.

This dragon was just a prop and Angie was nowhere near when it burst into flames.

Nobody was injured in this incident as firefighters battled to contain the blaze that erupted in the dragon’s head shortly after the show started. When not on fire, the show usually features ‘gravity-defying water displays, pyrotechnics and Mickey Mouse (usually) saving the day’.

Disney staff were quick to clear the area according to the BBC, and several rides near the on-fire fire-breathing dragon had to be shut down due to thick smoke.

The only real chuckle-worthy part of this incident is the announcer’s chill voice as he tells people that the performance will “unfortunately not continue due to unforeseen circumstances, although he hopes they enjoy their time at Disneyland”. Just stay out of burning attractions.

Disneyland has been in the news several times due to accidents recently, but fortunately, this incident seemed somewhat under control and nobody was decapitated.

This is not the first time there has been an issue with Maleficent. During a 2018 parade at Disney World in Florida, the dragon’s head also caught on fire. In all fairness, it is a fire-breathing dragon, so it just does what it does best: set shit on fire.

Maleficent plays the main villain in the 1959 movie Sleeping Beauty (and Jennifer Aniston’s marriage), where she turns into a dragon to fight Prince Phillip after becoming “the mistress of all evil”.
