This is the sort of thing that only happens in a Guy Ritchie movie.
Brian Francisco Roman casually strolled out of jail after impersonating his cellmate who was scheduled for release on the day.
Roman, who was incarcerated for dealing drugs, used his remarkable likeness to his fellow prisoner to make his escape, with authorities only realising their mistake when the quick-thinking convict was long gone.
Roman remains on the run after his not-so-subtle escape from the Cowlitz County jail on Monday.
When corrections officers went to his jail cell on Monday to contact his cellmate in connection with his release, they found all three inmates who shared the cell fast asleep. After calling out the to-be-released inmate’s name, Roman woke up and indicated that he was the person they were looking for.
“When the corrections officer called for the inmate, Roman identified himself as that inmate and went with the corrections officer to be processed out of custody. Jail staff stated that Roman and the other inmate have similar physical features,”
Leaving his roomies to their beauty sleep, Roman was then let out of the cell and processed, after which footage shows him casually strolling out the front door of the county jail.
To add a cheeky twist to his ‘escape’, the inmate even collected his cellmate’s property, including his clothing, keys, and wallet, which contained his ID and debit card.To really rub salt into the wounds, Roman even left the jail wearing his cellmate’s clothing.
According to the original article in the New York Post, prison officials were alerted to their mistake when his cellmate eventually roused from his slumber and called out to a guard to question when he would be released.
Somebody has a sphincter-clenching ‘oops’ moment, that’s for sure.
Following his escape, an arrest warrant was issued for Roman who now faces charges of “Escape 2nd Degree, Criminal Impersonation 1st Degree, Forgery, Theft 2nd Degree, and Theft 3rd Degree.”
He may have won this battle, but the war is going to catch up with the sneaky doppelganger eventually.
