We all throw away money. Some of us chuck our hard-earned cash at avo on toast or acrylic nails, while others just toss it out of their window on a busy highway.
Colin Davis McCarthy is a part of the latter group, having thrown $200 000 (over R3 million) out of his car window on a Eugene, Oregon highway last week, encouraging drivers to stop and grab it.
The New York Post reported that the 38-year-old took the money from his family’s bank accounts “to bless others”. Bless him.
He was seen chucking wads of $100 bills from his car’s window along Interstate 5, causing other drivers to slow down and collect the unexpected windfall, Oregon State Police said:
After troopers located McCarthy’s car, the generous motorist told them that he was “doing well and wanted to bless others with gifts of money,” Oregon State Police told KVAL-TV.
Troopers, who were worried that people looking for cash in the dark on the interstate could cause an accident, managed to convince McCarthy to stop tossing the cash.
People are still combing the area for some extra dollar bills:
The good samaritan is not facing any charges, but troopers had considered slapping him with reckless endangerment or disorderly conduct.
Meanwhile, McCarthy’s family said that his decision to spread the wealth around has left them broke, and are asking anyone who picked up cash earlier this week to return it.
Never mind cheating on your wife and zooming around in a red Ferrari, this could be what the new midlife crisis looks like.
