Whenever you see a dude with a Red Bull logo on their helmet, you just know someone is about to do some crazy shit.
BMX Pro Kriss Kyle recently took part in a publicity stunt by riding around a floating skatepark suspended beneath the gondola of a hot air balloon at 2 000ft (636 metres) in the air.
According to Robb Report, Kyle apparently attempted the stunt because he wanted ‘to ride where nobody has ridden before’. The worst part is that the BMX specialist is afraid of heights.
“Having to climb over the edge of the basket to get down to the skatepark underneath was such a crazy experience, I’ve had to push past my fears several times before on Red Bull projects, but nothing has compared to this.”
Besides overcoming his fears, Kyle and Red Bull had to convince U.K.-based Cameron Balloons to build the world’s largest operational air balloon—six times larger than a normal hot-air balloon.
The mini-skatepark has the same advanced composites as a Formula 1 car, while the team also needed to figure out aerodynamics since the 1.7-ton structure would be suspended 2000 feet in the air and susceptible to winds.
Kyle wore a parachute for the stunt but still had to deal with winds that rocked his floating bike park. Despite all the challenges, this is not the first time Kyle has done something this brave/stupid. Last year he did the “Dubai Drop,” where he jumped out of a helicopter on his bike and landed on the Burj Al Arab skyscraper.
Kyle might have the biggest cajones any cyclist ever had. Watch the video below.
