The UK government has announced that it will be testing its new ‘Armageddon Alarm’ on the 23rd of April.
The ‘very loud’ alarm will be used to notify unsuspecting locals of any ‘imminent danger to life’, such as extreme weather, flooding, or even military attacks.
The system will be tested on cellphones and a flashing warning and quite irritating sound will warn residents to duck and cover, run, or just freak out if they don’t have a phone and see everyone scattering about.
Following the light and sound alert, phone owners will subsequently be issued details of the emergency at hand alongside advice on what to do and how to get help.
An official report on the new warning system from the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Oliver Dowden stated that “These are unsettled and troubling times. We live in an increasingly volatile world, defined by geopolitical and geo-economic shifts, rapid technological change, and a changing climate.”
By the sounds of it, the UK is prepping citizens for anything from AI overlords to nukes and hurricanes. Good on them. Considering the nutters in charge of the world at the moment, things can go to pot at any time.
“While Britain faces increasing global threats, not least from Putin’s Russia, this saga has dragged on far too long and left our country lagging far behind on keeping the public safe.”
Funnily enough, the UK Government has also advised people on how to opt out of the test if the experience proves ‘too frightening.’ Wouldn’t it be swell if we could all just unsubscribe from all the worldwide madness?
Listen to the test signal below. We suggest you crank up the volume to annoy and terrify your colleagues at work.
