Just like Bruce Wayne has a crime-fighting alter ego Batman, local property banker Rob Cohen has his own bad mood-busting alternative personality called RobboZA. And while Batman is busting heads in his pursuit of justice, Rob is busting some phat beats in his pursuit of ordentlike playlists that everyone can groove to.

We caught up with RobboZA a few years ago when he just launched his popular Spotify playlists, and since then he has been growing in followers and skill, these days delivering one of the best-curated playlists on Spotify.

Robb’s first experience behind the decks was at his father’s clothing store, where he saw firsthand how good tunes can change the moods of customers. Good music makes people happy, and as anyone with a bit of marketing experience knows, happy customers, make paying customers.

Although Rob’s Spotify playlists are free, the experience of changing people’s moods is still the reason he puts together his monthly mixes.

RobboZA started in 2017 and has since attracted a solid following on Spotify. With a mix of chilled vibes and some late-night boomers, Robb tries to maintain a natural flow in his playlists – nobody likes it when people fight over what to play next, or if you have that buddy that keeps on dropping Slayer into the mix because he ‘wants to jack things up a bit’.

It’s his carefully chosen vibes that draw hundreds of revellers to his Sunrisers Lounge at AfrikaBurn every year. The camp is specifically for early birds and offers the chance to see a glorious sunrise with some awesome coffee while the right sounds at the right time slowly ease you into another day of survival at SA’s biggest dust fest.
