If you know who Doogie Howser, The Rugrats, and Melissa Joan Hart are, you might be a nostalgia-loving nineties kid.
The good news is that you are not alone in thinking that 1990 was ‘just the other day’. The bad news is that it was almost three decades ago…
If you lived through what can be described as the ‘most radical decade ever’, it most likely comes as a shock when you realise that you are closer in age to the Golden Girls than you are to Alicia Silverstone in Clueless — cue nostalgia.
It’s exactly this nostalgia that draws thousands of nineties kids to the annual 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut. The recent three-day event drew nearly 13 000 people and featured photo ops and panels dedicated to ’90s TV shows, movies, and music.

“People are feeling nostalgic about better times. Social media wasn’t around. It was just the beginning of the internet and the beginning of that technology that, nowadays, takes away from us being connected.”
As a 90s kid myself I often feel nostalgic for the days before the world went mad with the internet. Before TikTok influencers and ‘kick yourself in the balls challenges’, we had Robotech, Gummi Bears and Whose The Boss. And it feels like that was enough for us.
No Trump, Andrew Tate, or Jordan Petersen were around to lead anyone astray and we got our lessons in life from Full House, A-Team, and a plethora of Corey Feldman movies.
But it’s mostly thanks to TikTok and Instagram that we have seen a resurgence in 90s cool.
TikTok is brimming with “90s outfit inspo” videos. On Instagram, one account that shares photos and videos from the decade has 2.4 million followers.
Seeing the newfound love for radical neon-everywhere fashion does indeed make us wonder where the years went. If only we had held on to that Bomber bike and neon yellow Bear puffer jacket.

If this thought doesn’t leave you feeling depressed, you didn’t do the 90s right. And in case you missed the most radical decade of all time, here’s a reminder:
Let’s face it, everyone gets older. At least I was alive at a time when Candice Hildebrand was a presenter on K-TV. Awesome times.
