South Africa is bracing for the winter, but at least there’s snuggling up with series and snacks to look forward to.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned residents in parts of the Western Cape to expect a cold front this week, while folks in much of the rest of the country will be covered in clouds.
I guess that means we have to sort out our watchlists because the beaches, parks, and hiking spots won’t be any good any longer.
Just as the cold is settling in, BBC released a lekker list of watchables coming to all major streaming sites this April, and honestly, let it rain, let it blow, let it snow. Well, if it snows, Saffas will be off the couch to see the novelty in action, let’s be honest.
Anyway, there’s a lot on offer. Take your pick from an HBO true-crime starring Elizabeth Olsen, a new spin on ‘Fatal Attraction’, or a Netflix comic drama full of road rage.
We’re heading in:
Beef on Netflix:
Steven Yeun and Ali Wong already had reasons to be angry at life and then their road rage incident escalates into a series of pranks and attacks in this comic drama.
Beef premieres internationally on April 6 on Netflix.
Love and Death on HBO Max:
In 1980, Candy Montgomery, a church-going wife from suburban Texas, killed her lover’s wife, who happened to be her friend, with an axe. This true crime gives new meaning to a frenemy:
Love and Death premieres on April 27 on HBO Max.
Fatal Attraction on Paramount+:
This film-to-series adaption is based on the 1987 Michael Douglas-Glenn Close thriller about a rejected mistress who won’t be ignored, even if she has to boil a bunny to get attention:
Fatal Attraction premieres on April 30 in the US and May 1 in the UK on Paramount+.
Citadel on Prime Video:
Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden play former spies for the heroic global security agency Citadel, who had their memories wiped when the villainous syndicate Manticore destroyed it. Anthony and Joseph Russo, directors of Avengers: Endgame and other Marvel movies, are among the executive producers of this splashy show with a budget of over $200 million:
Citadel premieres on April 28 on Prime Video.
Sky Atlantic’s Dreamland:
Sharon Horgan’s stunning dark comedy follows four sisters reuniting in their Margate town in a series based on Horgan’s BAFTA-winning 2017 short, Morgana Robinson’s Summer.
Dreamland premieres on April 6 on Sky Atlantic.
Netflix’s Transatlantic:
This World War II drama is based on the remarkable true story of Varian Fry, an American sent to France during World War II to smuggle out great artists and writers targeted by the Nazis.
Transatlantic premieres on April 7 internationally on Netflix.
The Last Thing He Told Me on AppleTV+:
In this suspense series based on Laura Dave’s best-selling novel, Jennifer Garner stars as Hannah, whose husband of a year suddenly disappears, leaving her with a belligerent 16-year-old stepdaughter and loads of questions.
The Last Thing He Told Me premieres on April 14 internationally on AppleTV+.
