Much like having sex with your hot cousin, dying should really only be done once.
But for those of you who are intrigued by the prospect (of dying), there is now a ‘death simulator’ that allows you to experience the ‘at once meditative and unsettling’ feeling. Again, we are referring to the dying.
As part of the Passing Electrical Storms exhibits by Australian artist Shaun Gladwell, the ‘extended reality’ (XR) experience is being hosted at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.
The simulation ‘guides participants through a simulated de-escalation of life, from cardiac arrest to brain death’.
Users are laid down on a vibrating bed that ‘imitates’ flatlining, after which doctors then surround them and attempt to (unsuccessfully) revive the ‘patient’. Once you have shuffled off the mortal coil, however, the fun begins as you gently float past them for an out-of-body experience. In this state, you are able to look down at yourself laying on your deathbed and get that ‘just died’ immersive experience.
The whole thing is monitored by real medics and if you feel like it’s getting too much you can just raise your hand and the simulation will stop.
The exhibit ‘sounds intriguing’, but some were worried that experiencing what it was like to die sounded ‘really bad for your psyche’.
F#@$ing science, man.
A Tiktok user, Marcus, posted a video online of his experience with the simulator and since then it seems to have gone viral, so check it out.

We can’t help but think of a million James Bond movie titles that could fit very well with this exhibition. Die Another day, A good time to die, Goldfinger. So if you are in the Melbourne area, go check it out.
Take your cousin and make a day of it.
