Two pilots have been injured after their small aircraft crashed in Kraaifontein, Cape Town.
Apparently, the light aircraft went down close to the Waste Management Plant on Botfontein Road in Kraaifontein just after 11AM on Tuesday.
That’s what you call a shitty day.
Thankfully, there were no casualties.
Medical personnel, including the Titanium Securitas Medical team, were dispatched to the scene.
The SA Civil Aviation Authority said the aircraft had taken off from Cape Town International Airport before it crashed, per News24.
SACAA spokesperson Sisa Majola said the authority was informed by the Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID) that a Piper Cherokee PA-28A aircraft was in an accident.
“There were two occupants onboard, both sustaining serious injuries. The aircraft also suffered substantial damage,” Majola said.
The cause of the crash has not been determined yet.
The Titanium Securitas Medical Team and “relevant role-players“ said they found the two pilots aged 25 and 31 outside the aircraft, one of whom had sustained serious injuries while the second had sustained moderate injuries, per IOL.
Titanium Securitas, Kobus Kotze, said they were both stabilised on the scene, with one flown via an emergency helicopter to Christiaan Barnard Hospital while the other was transported to Karl Bremer Hospital.
All the relevant authorities were on the scene to conduct a full investigation. They will issue full details once the investigation has concluded.
