Have you ever heard the maxim, less is more? You know that wonderful saying that many designers, artists and minimalists champion? For the most part, owning less furniture, clothing or what have you, seems to point to a kind of cleanliness and order.
I’m not going to fib, it is quite nice to have a sense of controlled order in a world that can be chaotic at times.
Yet, in the cluttered world of Tik Tok, it seems that a new trend celebrates chaos – it’s called #Cluttercore.
The design trend seems to push minimalism to the side and honour the more is more approach. If you are still in the dark, #Cluttercore is a dear relative of maximalism. It seems as though many creators on TikTok are taking pride in showing off everything they own, and I mean everything, according to Better Home and Garden:
Cluttercore is an aesthetic that is focused on individuality and creating a space that tells a story, and unlike maximalism, cluttercore does not rely on themes in order to bring a space together. Rather, evoking a personal sense of joy is the driving factor.
There are so many pieces of clothing, furniture, sneakers, and interesting objects in these videos. More specifically, the creators have a wonderful way of organising the chaos. These individuals may just be exercising their ability to curate. You know to select, organise and arrange items in a meaningful way.
Memories from childhood, past adventures, and goods from thrift stores all come together to create what feels like a visual cacophony.
I genuinely can’t help but wonder what it must be like for moms, as well as those who like order, to watch this trend sprout. Let’s spare a moment for those who cannot bare the mess.
What’s interesting is that it seems to bring this innate joy that invigorates these people. If the #Cluttercore fans are happy with the organised clutter, that feeling is all that truly matters.
