South Africans are probably the most resilient and creative people on the planet.
Recently there has been a number of stories about people tagging the ANC with spray-painted pothole graffiti in the hopes of reminding the ruling party of their incompetence, but now it seems companies are also getting in on the act.
As with most things in SA at the moment, the private sector has been forced to step into the gap left by the government, and both Discovery Insure and Dialdirect Insurance have embarked on a ‘repair and branding’ initiative whereby they fix a pothole, and then put their branding on it.

Dial Direct has been especially busy, and since its pothole fixing initiative launched in May 2021, they have repaired more than 100 000 potholes in Johannesburg with 4 400 in Sandton alone.
Scandalous! This would have never happened while the Guptas still ruled South Africa.
Discovery’s Pothole Patrol has repaired over 50 000 potholes so far this year and took the time to emphasise the cost of the government’s slapgat attitude.Potholes cost SA R650 million in damages in 2021. This is equivalent to providing education for 30 000 children for a year.
At this rate, it may be more feasible if the government just goes on holiday and let private companies and citizens take it from there.
It would appear as if those in government are already ‘sponsored’ by cartels and private interests, so in a way, parliament has been privatised already.
