Imagine building this whole life with your wife and kids only to learn much later on that you’ve been canoodling with your sister this whole time.
One man did actually find out this life-shattering news when his wife needed a kidney transplant, and the doctor found their match suspiciously close.
Posting his story on Reddit, per the Mirror, he explained how he was adopted two minutes after his birth and doesn’t know anything about his biological parents as he was part of a closed adoption.
But then, everything came to light when his wife got sick just after their son was born and needed a kidney transplant.
They apparently checked with her relatives and none were a match or a viable donor, so he did some tests and it turned out, he was a perfect match:
“The doctor then said something about wanting to do additional testing due to some information from the HLA (human leukocyte antigen) tissue test results. I didn’t think much of it and agreed.”
But when the results came in, the man learned he and his wife had an “abnormally high match percentage”.
“I was shocked and confused,” he added. “He explained that because of how DNA information is passed down through generations a parent to a child could have at least a 50 percent match and siblings could have a 0-100 percent match.
He went on to explain how eight years ago, he had hit it off with his wife when he was working away from his hometown office. They swapped numbers and saw each other every time he went through until finally, they tied the knot:
He said: “We’re related – no, I’m not kidding. I don’t know what to do moving forward but I know it may be wrong. She is my wife and the mother of our kids.”
A lot of commenters on Reddit support the man sticking with the life he has built, even though he’s married to his sibling now:
One user said: “I mean at this point you are married with children already – you can’t take that back so I don’t see much point in blowing worlds up, I guess.”
Another user added: “You already have kids and they are assumedly healthy since you didn’t mention any crazy abnormalities.
“If you’re happy, you’re happy. Donate the kidney to your sister-wife and continue being great parents to your children.”
I guess he got more family out of the marriage than he ever could have imagined.
The odds of finding an adopted sibling without actively searching are already pretty low, and then falling in love, marrying, and having kids with one just feels oddly fated – if you believe in that kind of thing.
