Life at Sea cruises has announced its first-ever three-year cruise that will allow passengers to live on board one of their ships as it visits 135 countries on all 7 continents.
MV Gemini has been set up in such a way that passengers would be able to make the cruise their home as well as office as they float across the globe.
For digital nomads, this must surely be the holy grail of remote working.
“Life at Sea Cruises offers the ultimate bucket list cruise without having to sacrifice the comforts of home. It’s your home at sea with the world as your backyard.”
Irina Strembitsky, the company’s director of sales and marketing believes the voyage will be popular among professionals who are looking to leave a land-locked life behind for a few years. To this end, the ship has been set up with a business centre that has 14 offices, various meeting rooms, a lounge, and a business library. We can totally see running 2Oceanvibe from this floating island.
“Professionals need connectivity, the right amenities and the functionality to perform their jobs. There is no other cruise product that offers this sort of flexibility to their customers.”
And if you are horrified at the idea of spending three years with thousands of tourists clogging up the buffet line, rest assured, The Gemini is slightly smaller than your average cruise ship and only has 400 luxury cabins accommodating 1,074 passengers. Think of it as a village more than a ship.

Amenities include the standard sundeck and swimming pool, auditorium, wellness centre, and a 24-hour, on-call hospital that includes free medical visits. Sounds better than many of our local towns. It also goes without saying that there are several restaurants and bars on board as well. Golfing and yoga classes will also help a little to stretch those sea legs.

The trip will include visits to the 13 wonders of the world and UNESCO world heritage sites. The ship will also stop at the pyramids of Giza, Machu Picchu, and the Taj Mahal.

At a cost of R540 000 a year for a standard interior cabin, and R 2 million per year for the most luxurious suite on board, the cruise doesn’t seem to be that bad a deal. Considering that everything you need is onboard, this could make your remote office something really special. Check out the brochure here.
The first voyage begins on November 1, 2023, sailing from Istanbul, with pickups in Barcelona, Spain, and Miami.
